One bolt of cloth, two garments
SAMPEEL began in 2018 with a single set: a top and a pair of trousers cut from the same bolt of knit, made because the person who made them was tired of holding two shades of black up to a window. Friends bought the set first, then their friends, and the range grew from that one idea rather than from a plan.
We are a small team in Atlanta, which shapes the clothes more than the city gets credit for. It is warm for most of the year and humid for all of it, so fabric has to breathe or it does not get worn. The linen blends and the light knits across this range come from that, and so does the drawstring waist that turns up on so many of the bottoms.
The rule we use in the studio is short. A piece has to look the same after the tenth wash as it did after the first, or it does not go into the range. We test this in the least scientific way available, by wearing things for a season and putting them through an ordinary machine, and the pieces that pill, twist or fade get changed before the next run.
Sets are the heart of what we make and the reason most people find us. A set is one decision in the morning instead of two, and someone who saw the two halves side by side in daylight already made it for you. Wear the halves apart and each is a perfectly good garment on its own. Wear them together and they are what you bought.
Everything else in the range grew out of that. Tees and tanks that go under the cardigans. Dresses in the same knits as the sets. Sweaters for the four months a year when a tee is not enough, even here. The pieces share fabrics on purpose, so a top from one line and a bottom from another read as a pair.
What we publish about a piece comes from the tag inside it. The fabric percentages, whether it has pockets, whether the waist is high, whether the hem is cropped. If a page does not mention a feature, the honest reading is that we could not confirm it, not that the piece has it in some unstated way.
Sizes run X-Small to 3X-Large across most of the range, and they run to our own measurements, because there is no national standard to run to. The sizing guide on this site explains how to measure yourself once, which department runs closest to the tape, and why a drawstring changes the arithmetic.
We do not run a shop of our own. You buy every piece here through our retail partner, and the buttons open the exact item in the exact colour. Prices move with the season, so we refresh ours on a schedule and print the date of the last refresh on one page rather than promising a number we cannot hold.
The thing we are least willing to soften is what a piece will not do. A lounge set is not a suit. A knit dress is not lined. A cardigan is not a coat. Saying so costs a sale now and then, and it is the only way a catalogue like this one stays worth reading a second time.
